Saturday drop in workshops for June

Saturday 2nd to Saturday 30th June

These weekly 2 hour workshops will give children a fun and stimulating activity that will help them to engage with the sculpture at Jupiter. They will be run in the afternoon so children can have the opportunity of looking at the sculpture in the morning and then join the workshop to do a related activity in the afternoon. 2-4pm £6
 
June 2nd   Woodland Vinyl – creating reflective vinyl tape images based on Jim Lambie’s “A Forest”

June 23rd Mirror walk - tree gazing with concave and convex mirrors to capture the canopy view in the way Kapoor's works such as Cloudgate reflect nature and their enviroment.

Artist's Talk by Anya Gallaccio

Friday 22nd June

Anya Gallaccio will introduce us to her body of work and her new permanent sculpture in the woods at Jupiter. FREE (booking in advance essential as places will be limited)

Midsummer picnic in the park

Saturday 23rd June

 Back by popular demand Jupiter’s picnic on the nearest Saturday to midsummer. We will supply a picnic including salad, summer fruits and wine. Please bring your own rug and chairs and choose your favorite spot in the Artland to enjoy your picnic. 6pm to 9pm - £25 a head.

Drop in Holiday Workshops

Friday 6th July to Friday 24th August

Every Friday throughout  the summer holidays Jupiter is offering drop in workshops. The two hour sessions will take their inspiration from the work of the Jupiter artists and will involve fun and inspiring outdoor activities. 10am to 12 noon or 1pm to 3pm £6

6th July:  Transient objects – looking at the work of Cornelia Parker we will drape cutlery and utensils from trees to create group sculptures with a difference.

20th July: Digging for Britain! Looking at the practise of our new artist Henry Castle we will dig for objects in the woods and then recreate them in various mediums.

Grow your own face

Saturday 14th to Sunday 15th July

Inspired by the growth and decay themes in Anya Gallaccio's Red on Green gallery work for Jupiter, this workhsop explores body casting in an unusual way. Artist Natalie Taylor will lead this family workshop where you learn how to create a perfect three dimensional reproduction of your face. Using the safe techniques of modrock casting, this mould will then be used to create the face in soil and seeds. Take the cast home with you and watch in amazement as your work is turned into a green man, woman, girl or boy!

Poetry by the Jencks

Friday 20th July

 Ash Dickinson a nationally renowned young performance poet is  coming to do a mini 'poetry' slam in the amphitheatre of the Charles Jencks landforms. Come and relax by the Jencks and enjoy a few drinks and food from the barbeque.

July Artsparks

Tuesday 24th to Wednesday 25th July

A 2 day workshop inspired by Anya Gallaccio’s new work at Jupiter. The children will get involved with lots of fun arty activities out and indoors based on Anya’s floor of roses in the gallery and her crystal “cave” in the woods.   It is being led by Izzie Chappell who is running our very popular Littlesparks courses.

Suitable for 5 to 14 year olds who will be grouped by age.

Festival Canal Boat

Friday 3rd August

Leaving from the centre of Edinburgh you can take the fascinating journey through the city and its environs on water to Jupiter along the Union Canal. During this 3 hour trip you will have the chance to speak to Tania Kovats about her new work at Jupiter "Rivers" which opens for the Edinburgh Art Festival.

FREE (booking essential as places are limited places) 

There are two one way journeys: 

9am start behind Cargo Restaurant, Fountainbridge and journey to Jupiter Artland (minibus from Ratho to Jupiter laid on)

3pm start on minibus from Jupiter Artland to Ratho and canal boat into Fountainbridge. 

Festival Artsparks

Tuesday 7th to Thursday 9th August

This three day course will be based on the work of our Festival artist Tanya Kovats. The children will work on a water based sculpture as well as exploring drawing techniques that so define Tanya’s work. This course is being led by Davina Richardson who has run wonderful Artsparks for us before.

Suitable for 5 to 14 year olds who will be grouped by age.

Fundamentals of Dowsing

Saturday 11th August

Dowsing is about much more than just finding water. It can be used to find lost items, buried artefacts, test for food intolerances, identify geopathic stress and a variety of other uses in everyday life. It is a particularly useful skill for healers and therapists. This introductory workshop will provide a basic grounding in the use of the pendulum and L-rods, and show you how to integrate the principles of dowsing into your life and work, enhancing your intuition and decision-making skills. 

The workshop is led by professional dowser and geomancer Grahame Gardner, who is a Registered Tutor and current President of the British Society of Dowsers.

An evening guided tour by Jupiter’s head gardener

Saturday 18th August

Richard Irving will lead a tour of the Artland. Richard has helped many of the artists to install their pieces and has a unique insight into the collection. It will be limited to 20 people and there will be refreshments in the Proposals room after the walk. 6.30 to 9pm £15 a head.

Children's Guided Tour of Jupiter Artland

Sunday 26th August

Come and join this hunt for art - we will have a walk around and explore the amazing sculpture dotted around the woods and meadows of Jupiter Artland. Please book in at reception from 10am on the day this event is FREE with entrance ticket 1.30pm - 3.30pm . For aged 5 upwards.

Autumn Littlesparks

Tuesday 28th August to Tuesday 27th November

Little Sparks weekly courses offer the ultimate in green outdoor art for preschoolers. These morning and afternoon sessions are packed with fun and messy indoor and outdoor activities which develop preschool skills in the beautiful environment of Jupiter Artland. Using the sculpture in its unique natural setting as a base, the children work on stimulating themed art and craft activities. Imaginative play, drama and music sessions alongside the art work add up to a wonderfully busy morning for little ones. Coffee and cake in the Proposals Room for mums and dads to meet and chat too.

Blue Moon Picnic

Friday 31st August

To celebrate the Blue Moon this year and the opening of Tania Kovats "Rivers" we invite you to a Blue Moon picnic. We will supply the picnic, all you need is your own rug or chair. Spend your evening by the pond surrounded by the beautiful new all white planting which will glow in the gloaming!

Friday Afternoon Littlesparks

Friday 31st August to Friday 30th November

New for this autumn we are extending our Littlesparks offering to Friday afternoons for older children. The sessions will involve fun outdoor activities based on artist’s work at Jupiter, anything from twining in the trees after Shane Waltener to sketching on the Jencks trying to capture the contours in charcoal to building large scale group sculpture over a few sessions. The range of activities is very broad and as much as possible is outside so children learn the connection between the art and the land at Jupiter. Izzie Chappell who currently runs our Tuesday Littlesparks session will be leading these too.  

Suitable for 4-6 year olds.

1.30 – 3.30pm

Starting on 31st of August and finishing on the 30th November with half term on the 19th and 26th of October.
